This core mandate sits at the heart of the organization, to create a culture of participation among young people, to become empowered by their participation in the institutions and decisions that affect their lives-which in turn can lead to real positive change in the community.
Through the development of appropriate youth engagement strategies, we catalyse ideas to increase participation of young people, particularly female youth to address local challenges in their own communities and government. By working together to help young people, communities and democracy thrive.
The climate crisis is increasingly impacting all of us, particularly those who are marginalized are experiencing it to an even greater extent, creating climate injustice for people and our planet. In this stead, we work with communities to create awareness, advocate with decision makers and support local initiatives that promote climate smart actions and environmental justice. Notably, we have planted over 4000 mangrove trees along the Tudor Creek-supports Forest adjacent communities that largely rely on nature-based solutions (future of work) in the marine ecosystem, to support themselves and their families.
We are keen to promote inclusive governance and strengthen institutional capacity at the local level to promote efficient public service delivery. Our programs improve mechanisms for broad public engagement. For instance, in our governance project, we ensured that the county government financial and budgetary documents, are accessible to vulnerable and marginalized disabled people through enhancing their participation in government processes. We also translated public documents into braille and audio cds for the visually and hearing-impaired people.
CDP is committed to enable equitable access to health services to young girls, as well as ending the unmet need for family planning, to accelerate collective efforts to end early and unintended pregnancy in the Coastal region of Kenya. We also conduct community outreaches through theatre, sports and other forms of arts for expression, amongst young girls to promote awareness and provoking discussion about understanding of contraception and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), widely a taboo and cascading trainings about life skills amongst the young girls.
We envision a faster achievement of the SDG in peace building and strong institutions. Our focus is building social cohesion and resilience in the communities, in order to overcome local community challenges related to violence, extremism and polarization. By working with communities to support peace-building activities in the local communities.
